Last week, Facebook users started noticing something new on their Facebook pages. Whenever they went to share a post publicly, a box with a blue dinosaur on a computer popped up alerting users to the fact that they hadn’t changed their sharing settings lately and Facebook just wanted to make sure they were sharing the post with exactly who they wanted to.
For years, critics have been complaining that Facebook does too much in encouraging people to over-share, and not enough in helping them to easily figure out how to pick and choose who sees what. So it was a nice change to see a gentle reminder warning that you might be over-sharing – and with a cute little dinosaur to boot.
It’s interesting to hear about this new update since in our Facebook, As Told By You infographic, we asked 250 respondents what changes they would make to improve the user experience, and an overwhelming majority said better privacy. It’s nice to see Facebook listening to their users and working harder to gain their trust.
